What’s Being Said

I have had the great privilege of having Dave Nassaney as a speaker at my event this weekend here at the Harvard Club in Boston. Everybody is always blown away  every time Dave speaks. I've see him at NAZDAQ, I've seen him at the Harvard Faculty Club, I've seen him on stage with Suzanne Somers. I've seen him on stage with Caitlyn Jenner and Martha Stewart. the guy is a first class celebrity talent speaker. If you haven't invited him on your stage yet, what are you waiting for?

This book is a real eye-opener! David Nassaney gives us a "behind the curtains" view into what goes on in the American gas station. I've always taken for granted the availability of gas at reasonable prices. I'll never get gas again without thinking of this book and the stories David tells. I have a new-found appreciation (and respect) for the local station owner. This book is at the same time, funny, heart-warming and frustrating. You get a sense of what these small business owners have to cope with on a daily basis, both from us as customers and from the big oil companies. It's a wonder they don't all just shut down! This is an easy to read, very informative book that should be read by everyone. Thanks David. I'll never complain about gas prices again. At least, not to my local gas station owner.

When I started reading this book, I was immediately taken back to when I opened my first gas station in 1974. My fuel supply was cut off by Exxon, and I was quickly surrounded by angry motorists who did not believe the oil company s reasons for the gas lines that were airing on the nightly news. Dave discusses a very accurate account of the life of a gas station dealer, especially the oil companies attempt at fixing prices, rest room problems and nearly every other aspect of being a dealer. You will learn much from this enjoyable book, whether you lived through it, or are hearing these stories for the very first time. But this time you ll be viewing them through the eyes of the person on the other side of the counter.

At first, I thought, what would I gain from this book about gas stations?  But let me tell you it was really interesting!!! I found out how the Oil Companies have treated gas station owners especially during shortages and rising prices over the years.

Dave’s story telling is humorous. And the Chapter on Restroom Stories was hilarious.  We all know the feeling when we are on a long journey, and we end up having to use a horribly kept restroom. And the stories of the con artists with the employee at the till.  The heartfelt story of his father owning gas stations and helping other family members set up was touching. However, the genuine story of how his father ended up despite success gave Dave a different perspective on work and family.

I do remember the days of having the oil, water and tires checked. Your windows being washed.

I do remember how cheap gas was when I was in high school.

Dave’s style of writing is like him talking to you and very easy and entertaining to read.

It is a book that should be archived in the Library of Congress as to what Gas Station Owners went through with Oil Companies. . Again, he has been interviewed on TV during the trying times of gas prices rising these last few years.

Dave s portrayal of the oil industry is pretty accurate, based on my experiences of suing them for over 20 years. The oil companies will usually do what is in their best interest, unless they are forced to consider the dealer s best interest, (and that s when I usually get involved.) Attorneys are the great equalizer when it comes to fighting big oil companies, and it is only getting worse. Dave s experiences at his location are pretty typical for a gas station dealer, and some of those stories he tells are pretty hilarious. This is a very entertaining and educational book that is a quick and enjoyable read.

A very informative view of the ownership and management of gas stations. The humor in the every day events almost makes the headaches go away. I so appreciate the opportunity to learn the real truth behind the counter of the stations. As a consumer of the product...I lived the life of your customers....yes, I admit to flirting with your employees to order to try to get a better place in the gas line during the time of rationing! Fun reading; good writing!
